Dr. Smita Singh
President and Founder, Urja
Dr. Smita Singh, a lawyer by profession with a doctorate in political geography, has 16 years of experience leading multiple projects related to social issues, such as human rights, child rights, women's rights, the environment, and education. She is a strong advocate for both child and women's rights and has implemented numerous state and national-level projects to raise awareness on various issues.
Dr. Singh has collaborated directly with the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the National Commission for Women. Beginning her career in litigation at the Supreme Court, she quickly transitioned to the social sector, working with esteemed organizations such as the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), the National Commission for Women (NCW), the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), and Save the Children, among others. She was also an international recipient of the prestigious 'Lex Falcon Global Awards (Legal) 2022' in Dubai for her outstanding contributions to the legal industry.
Dr. Singh recognized the inadequacy of awareness regarding rights, particularly for women, and the positive influence this knowledge can have on their quality of life. Consequently, she founded URJA, which aims to provide legal representation and education to women who have been denied access to such services. Dr. Singh's goal is to make the law accessible, not a privilege.
