Dr. Smita Singh
President and Founder, Urja
Dr. Smita Singh, a lawyer by profession and with a doctorate in political geography, has 16 years of experience spearheading multiple projects related to social issues, such as human rights, child rights, women's rights, environment, and education. She is a strong advocate for child and women's rights and has executed numerous state and national-level projects to raise awareness on a variety of issues.
Dr. Singh has worked directly with the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the National Commission for Women. While starting her career in litigation at the Supreme Court, she soon transitioned to the social sector, working with renowned organizations such as Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), National Commission for Women (NCW), National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Save the Children and more. She was also an international recipient of the prestigious 'Lex Falcon Global Awards (Legal) 2022' in Dubai for her exemplary contribution in the legal industry.
Dr. Singh recognized the lack of awareness of one's rights, especially for women, and the positive impact this knowledge can have on their quality of life. As a result, she founded URJA, which aims to provide legal representation and sensitization to women who have been denied access to such services. Dr. Singh's goal is to make law accessible, not a privilege.
